Aldridge Brut                                                                                                                                          £16.00

WHITE WINES

Light, Crisp Dry Whites

Les Terrasses Blanc, 2006                                                                                                                   £12.00

Vignerons Ardechois, Cevennes, Rhône, France

Grenache Blanc/Sauvignon Blanc blend - very aromatic (spicy pear) with clean, lively

flavours of green apple, gooseberry and lemon, leading to a zingy finish on the palate.

Wild Rush White, 2006                                                                                                                         £13.50

Rietvallei Estate, Robertson, South Africa

Colmbar (South Africans drop the ‘d’!)/Sauvignon Blanc/Chardonnay blend - very floral

with a crisp yet generous style and bold flavours of sweet grapefruit, lemon/lime and a

touch of guava.

Muscadet, 2006                                                                                                                                        £19.00

Château de Cleray, Vallet, Loire, France

Very crisp, clean and zingy (lemon zest) with a faint yeast/nutty tanginess and a complex,

slightly creamy finish on the palate.  Widely acknowledged as one of the very finest of the

Muscadets and the perfect complement to seafood.

Sauvignon Blanc, 2005/06                                                                                                                      £19.00

Spy Valley, Marlborough, South Island, New Zealand

With an intense gooseberry and asparagus aromas and exotic fruit ‘starburst’ on the

palate, this is classic Kiwi Sauvignon Blanc with masses of attitude and fruit.

Chablis, 2005                                                                                                                                             £28.00

Domaine Pinson, Chablis, Burgundy, France

This is one of the most ‘senior’ estates in Chablis producing vibrantly assertive Chablis,

loaded with ‘de pierre à fusil’ (gunflint taste), and perfectly balanced between ripe, weighty

fruit and bright ‘green’ acidity.

Pouilly Fumé ‘Villa Paulus’, 2005                                                                                                         £27.00

Domaine Masson Blondelet, Pouilly-sur-Loire, Loire, France

A delightful laser-sharp, crisp acidity balances the exciting greengage/smokey gooseberry

flavours that only Pouilly-Fumé can achieve with a hint of tangy limestone on the finish.

Fuller Bodied Dry Whites

Everton White, 2006                                                                                                                                 £14.00

Brown Brothers, Milawa, Victoria, Australia

Chardonnay/Sauvignon Blanc/Pinot Gris blend - aromas of citrus and white peach, followed

by rounded, full-bodied flavours of ripe tropical fruits and ‘herbs’ with the delicate tang of

the Pinot Grigio ‘lifting’ the finish on the palate.

Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi, Classico, “Le Vele” 2006                                                                £17.00

Moncarro, Italy

This is a 100% Verdicchio of excellent quality, picked ultra-ripe at the beginning of October

and cool fermented to maintain freshness.  Very generous and full-flavoured for Verdicchio

with a rich, zesty fruitiness and a hint of ‘honeyed’ citrus on the palate.

Chardonnay ‘Selection 23’, 2006                                                                                                            £18.00

Zilzie Estate, Victoria, Australia

Typically up-front in style but with a surprising degree of elegance and balance.  Flavours

of tropical fruits (peach and melon in particular) combine beautifully to provide a long, silky

palate.  There is just the faintest hint of oak, which gives a very gentle vanilla creaminess to the wine.

Rioja Blanco ‘Monopole’ (Barrel Fermented), 2005                                                                            £19.00

C.V.N.E., Haro, Rioja Alta, Spain

This could only be white Rioja!  Intensely crisp and ‘citrussy’ in style but the barrel

fermention (in new oak) gives a pervasive oakiness and a huge creamy finish.  The oak

and wine complement each other perfectly, making this surprisingly ‘food-friendly’.

Chenin Blanc ‘Barrel Fermented’, 2005                                                                                                £19.00

Jordan Estate, Stellenbosch, South Africa

Very well made and complex wine with layers of rich, juicy tropical fruit and creamy

citrus (elderflower/grapefruit) flavours, interlaced with an exotic spiciness from barrel

fermentation.  Best described as a turbo-charged Vouvray!

Aromatic, Silky Whites, Spicy or Grapey

Pinot Gris 'Villa Wolf', 2006                                                                                                                    £16.00

J L Wolf, Wachenheim, Rheinpfalz, Germany

Made by the very talented Ernst Loosen, this is made from very old vines in vineyards that

had been abandoned for many decades.  This is ‘medium dry’ in style and shows a lightly

spiced character with almonds and a touch of honeyed sweetness on the finish.

Viognier, 2005/06                                                                                                                                        £16.00

Costieres de Pomerol, Languedoc, France

Pomerols is a small picturesque village, located between the garrigue in the north (a few kms

from Pézenas) and the Mediterranean Sea.  Ripe, surprisingly powerful and alluringly exotic

with ripe apricots, peaches and fresh nectarine flavours.  This is actually a dry white wine but

it tastes so intensely ripe that many people describe it as ‘off dry’.

Rudesheimer Magdalenekreuz, Riesling Spätlese, 2003/05                                                               £19.00

J Leitz, Rudesheim, Rheingau, Germany

Johannes Leitz has produced a superb ‘late harvest’ Riesling that offers piercingly pure and

classic lime, peach and honeyed grapefruit flavours with a hint of acacia.  Very rich and

sweet but still a bright, tangy acidity.

ROSE WINES

Les Terrasses Rose, 2006                                                                                                                          £12.00

Vignerons Ardechois, Cevennes, Rhône, France

Syrah/Grenache Noir blend - a delightful dry rose with fresh strawberry and

raspberry fruit to the fore and a lovely ‘summer fresh’ finish on the palate.

Massaya Rosé, 2006                                                                                                                                     £19.00

Massaya, Bekaa Valley, Lebanon

The ‘hot’ new winery in Lebanon - move over, Musar!  Massaya provide the grapes/pickers

whilst Bordeaux and Chateauneuf-du-Pape provide the expertise for this extraordinarily

elegant and delicious dry rosé with masses of raspberry and red currant.

Sancerre Rosé, 2006                                                                                                                                    £29.00

Pierre Dezat, Sancerre, Loire, France

With its delicate, pervasive scent of crushed strawberries and finely tuned flavours

of wild strawberries and cranberries, underpinned by a surprisingly vivid acidity, this

truly is the taste of a long, hot summer.

RED WINES

Lighter, Soft Easy Drinking Reds

Les Terrasses Rouge, 2006                                                                                                                        £12.00

Vignerons Ardechois, Cevennes, Rhône, France

Merlot/Grenache Noir blend - this shows ‘turbo-charged’, warm flavours of

spicy plum, fresh white pepper and a hint of mulberry.  Very ripe and ‘up-front’

in style.

Ladoix, Côte de Beaune, 2000                                                                                                                     £26.00

Domaine Rene Durand, Côte de Beaune, Burgundy, France

A silky, elegant Pinot Noir from a small but excellent producer - this is effectively

Nuits St Georges quality at Côte de beaune prices!  This shows a tremendous

concentration of flavour, especially from such a classic vintage that is now showing

all the extra maturity and complexity that you could hope for!

Brouilly, 2005                                                                                                                                               £24.00

Chateau du Pavé, Brouilly, Beaujolais, France

A ‘structured’ Brouilly from a fantastic vintage - this shows a surprising depth of

powerful raspberry and cassis fruit, supported by soft tannins and an essential,

refreshing acidity, leading to a vibrant finish.  Very ‘food friendly’ and versatile.

Medium Bodied, Fruit Driven Reds.

Malbec 'Anubis', 2005                                                                                                                                 £15.00

Dominio del Plata, Mendoza, Argentina

Once a key component of ‘traditional’ clarets, Malbec has flourished in Argentina

where it is famed for its ’robust’ character - this is deep-coloured and stuffed to the

brim with ripe, plum and spicy damson flavours with a touch of ‘grip’ on the palate.

Superb with a big chunk of full flavoured red meat!

Pinotage 'Tulbagh Ridge', 2004                                                                                                                £15.00

Tulbagh Winery, Tulbagh, South Africa

100% Pinotage (Pinot Noir x Cinsault cross), which is South Africas very own grape

variety.  Sweet red berry flavours with a hint of hazelnut chocolate and that unique

flavour of green olive/herbs that only Pinotage can produce.

Zinfandel, 2003/05                                                                                                                                       £19.00

Stonehedge Cellars, St Helena, California

Very full flavoured with masses of ‘up-front’ spicy plums, ripe red cherries and

cracked black pepper flavours almost bursting out of the glass!  There are hints

of chocolate on the finish.

Merlot, Classic Series, 2005                                                                                                                      £18.00

Montes Winery, Colchagua, Chile

A rich, rounded and very ‘silky’ Merlot that shows generous amounts of ‘plum

fruitcake’ flavours with hints of tobacco leaf and gentle, creamy vanilla from one

of the best wineries in South America.

Salice Salentino, Riserva, 2003                                                                                                                 £18.00

Francesco Candido, Sandonaci, Puglia, Italy

Candido, supervised by Severino Garofano, the leading 'wine guru' of the region,

is producing some of the best and most varied wines in Puglia.

The Riserva is made from Negroamaro and  Malvasia Nera and is an Italian classic,

hinting at dark plums, damson, and figs, with a delicious savoury complexity. It is

surprisingly smooth and mellow but with a clean juicy acidity, and dry finish, to

make it shine with rich foods.

Cabernet Sauvignon ‘Antis’, 2004                                                                                                             £18.00

Andean Wineries, Mendoza, Argentina

Fabulously rich and ‘warm’ with intense flavours of cassis, capsicum and mint but

still very soft and 'open' on the palate.  The fruit is surprisingly well integrated with

some very subtle oak and shows a lovely balance between power and style.

Massaya, Classic Red, 2005                                                                                                                        £19.00

Ghosn, Brunier & Hebrard, Bekaa Valley, Lebanon

A Franco Lebanese collaboration, - the french partners being Daniel Brunier from

Chateauneuf du Pape (Vieux Telegraph) and Dominique Hebrard of Chateau Trianon

in St Emilion. This blend of Cinsault, Cabernet Sauvignon & Syrah manages to be smooth

and very soft yet dry, spicy and complex.

Shiraz, 2005                                                                                                                                                   £19.00

Zilzie Estate, Victoria, Australia

Very sleek and elegant Aussie Shiraz with vibrant black fruit flavours and a hint

of chocolate, enhanced by supple, round tannins.  This is the sort of wine that

demands to be drunk immediately and with great gusto!

Pinot Noir, 2005                                                                                                                                             £27.00

Spy Valley Estate, Marlborough, New Zealand

New Zealand is now recognised as the best place for Pinot Noir (outside Burgundy!)

and this is a wonderful example – rich (almost sweet) and very smooth with extremely

ripe blackberry and black cherry fruit with just a hint of toasty oak on the finish.

Bigger, Heavier Reds, with more Tannin, Fantastic with Food.

Everton Red, 2005                                                                                                                                          £14.00

Brown Brothers, Milawa, Victoria, Australia

A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Malbec - an outstanding wine which can

compete with the best.  Classically Australian - deep colour and rich ‘black fruit’

flavours with just a hint of eucalyptus and spice.

Cotes du Rhone Villages “Visan”, 2005,                                                                                                  £19.00

Domaine Roche Audran, Buisson, Rhône, France

A deep-coloured ‘meaty’ red with excellent purity of fruit (from beautiful ‘bio-

dynamique’ vineyards) and a generous fleshiness, combined with a suppleness

that is so rarely achieved.  Wonderfully complex and punching well above its weight,

this is very talented wine-making indeed.

Prado Rey ‘Cuvée Primium’, 2002                                                                                                              £19.00

Bodegas Ventolsilla, Ribuero del Duero, Castilla, Spain

A succulent and velvety Tempranillo (the red grape of Rioja) from one of the best

wine making areas in Spain.  This is crammed full of opulent blackberry fruitiness

with a hint of spicy raspberry and tobacco leaf, all wrapped up in a layer of vanilla.

Rioja Reserva, 2003                                                                                                                                       £26.00

Bodegas Muga, Haro, Rioja Alta, Spain

The family run Bodegas Muga produces a handcrafted, serious and very traditional

Rioja, which is extremely rich and weighty.  A Tempranillo/Grenache/Mazuelo blend,

it is fermented in large oak vats, then matured for up to 20 months in small oak

barriques.  A stupendous, mouth-filling chunky red!

Château la Fleur Haut Brisson, 2001                                                                                                         £24.00

Côtes de Castillon

Saint Emilion born Pierre Choukroun, decided to return to his roots in wine having

travelled for many years. In 1999, after studying viticulture followed by experience at

various châteaux in Bordeaux he began searching for a parcel of 'terroir' in which he

would be able to realise his dream of producing fine wine from Merlot. The miracle happened!

One morning whilst crossing the plateau of St. Philippe d'Aiguille (near Saint Emilion) he came

upon La Fleur Haut Brisson. For Pierre, it was dream come true! The limestone and clay soil

was exceptional. Furthermore this plateau was perfect for the quality of the grapes being

constantly fanned by a light wind. Harvesting is done entirely by hand and the wines are

aged in oak barrel. The wine is supple, and quite delicious!.Merlot 80%, Cabernet-Sauvignon 20%

Grande Classique, 2003                                                                                                                                £27.00

Glen Carlou, Paarl, South Africa

David Finlayson spent a good deal of time at Château Margaux, and has created

this superb Bordeaux style wine, using the same grape varieties,(Cabernet Sauvignon

Merlot, Petit Verdot & Malbec) at his superb winery nestled in the foothills of the

Simonsberg mountain. This is an elegant, beautifully structured wine with

tight blackcurrant fruit and silky tannins.

Patricia Shiraz, 2002                                                                                                                                    £29.00

Brown Brothers, king Valley, Victoria, Australia

This is Brown Brothers’ Flagship wine, and has won many awards in Australia and beyond.

The style selected for the Patricia Shiraz was to show intense, dense, round, supple and ripe fruit

flavours balanced with integrated oak flavours. Barrel fermented for added flavour complexity,

American oak was chosen as it complements the berry and spice flavours of these Shiraz grapes.

Intensity and elegance are hallmarks of the Patricia Wines - the palate has concentrated fruit,

great length and a fine-grained tannin finish.

DESSERT WINES

Late Harvest Orange Muscat & Flora, 2006                                                                                           £15.00

Brown Brothers, Milawa, Victoria, Australia

Orange Muscat is the flavour powerhouse, bringing orange blossom/fresh citrus zest

whilst Flora (yes, it is a separate grape variety!) shows ripe apricot and contributes

texture to the palate.  Sweet but not too sticky, this really does tantalise the tastebuds,

especially when combined with lighter desserts such as fresh fruits or tarts.

Loupiac, 2005                                                                                                                                                 £14.00

Chateau la Passonne, Bordeaux, France

Just over the river from Sauternes, this is a deliciously tangy and juicy dessert

wine  - full-flavoured but still very fresh, this offers delicious flavours of home made

marmalade and spicy dried berries.  Perfect with fruit puddings and butterscotch dishes.

Aleatico di Puglia, 2000  (50cl)                                                                                                                   £19.00

Francesco Candida, Puglia, Italy

Made from grapes left to ‘over-ripen’ on the vine, this is brimming over with flavours of raisins,

stewed apple and Mediterranean spices.  This wine is a fantastic accompaniment to cheese,

especially salty or blue cheese, or as an after dinner tipple instead of Port.  However, many chefs

swear by this as the perfect wine to try with dark chocolate.
